The RJ45 Network Combiner allows two computers to share a single network cable drop saving time and money. Installation takes seconds, simply connect a RJ45 Network Combiner to both ends of the of the cable run, and then complete the installation with four Ethernet cables, two cables from the network devices to the first RJ45 Network Combiner and two cables from the second RJ45 Network Combiner to two Ethernet ports on a network switch. The innovative design of this product allows the network device connected to port one to use the standard four conductors for Ethernet communication, while the network device connected to port two uses the four conductors that are typically unused. By providing two ports at both ends of the cable run, the RJ45 combiner allows two network devices to connect to two unique Ethernet ports which is required for Ethernet communication.
Please Note: Use of this product requires two available Ethernet ports on a network switch. The pair of RJ-45 Combiner kit must be used together for each installation, one on each end of the cable run, for proper operation.

Questions & Answers
Just wondering: Exactly what does it mean to have "one on each end of the cable" chain? Is this an into and out of connection, like a daisy chain, e.g. the router to the computer, the computer to the printer?
The Jack splitter kit comes with 2 boxes it is used where one box goes at the ethernet wall jack to turn one jack into 2 jacks. in the switch closet, you have to plug the other box into the corresponding patch panel port to allow you to plug in 2 different patch cables to your switch. Standard ethernet cable has 8 wires inside it, Gigabit speed needs all 8 wires, but 10/100 data only uses 4 wires using wire 1, 2, 3 and 5. Wires 4,6,7, and 8 are unused. These boxes remap 4,6,7 and 8 to the other connector as that connectors wires 1, 2, 3 and 5 so you need a box on each end of the connection to allow the switch to talk to each Ethernet port on the other end using wires 1, 2, 3 and 5.
Please note your ethernet connection may get some cross-talk between wire 4 and 5 and thus may slow the connection down a bit.

I seek a product like this for a 10/1000 (gigabit) network. Does this work with a gigabit network? if not, do you have such an offering?
Product 37049 is only rated for 10/100. Unfortunately it is not capable of gigabit.

Can both computers connected via this product be used at the same time?
Yes. But it must be used in pairs. One will go at the router/switch side and the other will go on the side with the 2 computers. You are first combining 2 signal coming from the router, sending those 2 signals over a single Cat5 cable and then splitting them back out to 2 computers.
