A lifesaver
This was well worth the money. My laptop, but not the hard drive within it, had died; I was able to use this device to salvage every bit of my data onto my replacement computer. The only snag I hit was not realizing that the laptop manufacturer had put a very small connection adapter shim onto their installation of the drive, so for a few minutes it looked like I had bought the wrong adapter. Once I figured out what was going on, it took less than 5 minutes to get the drive online and visible to the OS on the new machine.

Adapter gives users backup flexibility.
When my notebook computer died, I needed to safeguard a lot of files, and make them accessible while the computer was repaired. I used this adapter to connect the hard drive to my desktop computer through a USB port, and downloaded all my files. With a power supply and USB to IDE cable, it is a complete solution. The only criticism is that you could hook it up incorrectly, despite a fairly clear instruction sheet. Photo instructions would be preferable.
