Most newer audio equipment (such as TVs, cable boxes, CD players and gaming consoles) only outputs audio signals through digital optical or digital coaxial connections. That limitation can prevent you from outputting sound to your stereo equipment which may only accept analog signals. Our DAC s the ideal solution to convert digital audio signals to analog audio. Once in analog format, the signal can then be distributed up to 150 feet away, surpassing the length limitations of digital audio. This not only provides added flexibility for equipment placement, but also saves money by eliminating the need to purchase digital repeaters. This plug-and-play solution requires no additional software or drivers and supports Windows® 7. Up to three different devices can be connected at the same time using S/PDIF coaxial, TOSLINK optical, or USB input. This not only accommodates a variety of equipment types but also allows for multiple configurations based on the user's custom setup.
Please Note: This device cannot convert compressed digital audio formats such as Dolby Digital® or DTS®. It can only convert non-compressed audio such as PCM to an analog output.

I am connecting my Tv to a mixing board of a large PA system. The signal is clear and just what I needed.

Does not work properly with AppleTV
Purchased for TOSLINK connection to Headphone jack and to use with AppleTV 3. Audio sounds just OK bitrate much lower than imported into iTunes.
But professional DAC would have been $600 so at least I can hear iTunes.
Will not convert Dolby so don't try to hear a movie through it because jittering will occur and may damage speakers.

Nice but..
My folks got an LG Flat screen which only had optical for aux audio out so we ordered this to feed audio into their older stereo receiver input as the previous CRT tv had. Problem was this DAC does not decode all of the digital audio stream formats that the tv puts out. This only seems to the decode Stereo PCM that is on the old analog broadcasts. It went silent when we tuned in the digital channels whic all put out Dolby 3/2 or 5.2. So this device is fine for something like a cd player optical out and will not be any good on a DVD player or a TV or satelite receiver. We have to send ours back. It can be used to convert toslink to coax and the reverse regardless of audio format but don't expect it to give you the analog audio for anything other then stereo PCM signals.

Digital to analog converter
A great solution to my need for connecting powered external speakers to my plasma TV using the optical digital output jack. Volume is adjustable, construction is very good although it is not cheap. It is my only solution.

Very cool device
This is the perfect little device to use with older non digital items to get the best sound with your theater system, along with Velocity™ Digital Optical cables. I called Bose and to upgrade to a new digital system was $3,000. Saved me $$$.

Exactly what I hoped for + a bit more...
I bought a plasma tv that only has optical audio out. In order to listen with headphones I needed a device to translate from digital to analog to mini headphone jack. Did the job perfectly. Has other connections out for audio as well, so overall...great product.

This is the best product ever made!
I had a new HDTV with digital optical output and an older model receiver with analog outputs.Would have cost me $$ to replace the receiver. The sound is great thanks to this converter.

Can I plug a Sennheiser bluetooth dongle into the usb input of the DAC and use the other side of the DAC into an output to a cable box to produce a bluetooth signal?
No. The USB port is only to connect it to a PC's USB port or to an AC to USB adapter. It would not work with a bluetooth dongle.

What am I doing wrong? The toslink cable I have doesn't seem to want to fit into the DAC. Do toslink cables come in different sizes? Thanks!

can you hook this up to a plasma TV than doesn't have a head phone jack so you can listen with a headphone?
If the plasma has a digital audio out (optical or coax), you would be able to use this to connect to headphones. You also want to make sure the TV can send PCM audio out of that digital audio output.

Hi , I bought this device a year ago and have it connecting the optical audio of a plasma TV to the analog input of my bose system, it worked wonderful until today. What happend is that by mistake I shut off the main energy switch in my home while the tv was on, when I switched back on the energy switch the tv came on but the audio does not get to my sound system. The tv audio and the soundsystem work fine alone but when conected to the converter it does not work, I don't know if is the optical cable that was damage or the converter. Can you help me to find out where is the problem ? Thanks a lot Hector
